Use and Care
How to Care for Turkish Cotton Towels
1. Pre-Wash for Optimal Absorbency
Before using your Turkish cotton towels, it’s a good idea to wash them first. This helps remove any manufacturing residues and increases their absorbency. We recommend washing them in cold water with mild detergent and without fabric softeners, as these can reduce absorbency.
2. Avoid Fabric Softeners
Fabric softeners contain silicone, which can create a coating on your towels that makes them less absorbent. Instead, stick to natural detergents, or opt for adding a small amount of white vinegar during the rinse cycle. This helps maintain the softness and fluffiness of the towels.
3. Wash with Like Colors
To avoid color transfer, wash your Turkish cotton towels with similar colors. Avoid washing them with heavy garments like jeans, which can damage the towel fibers.
4. Low-Heat Drying
To preserve the integrity of your towels, tumble dry on low heat or air-dry them naturally. High heat can damage the fibers and cause shrinkage. If possible, remove the towels from the dryer while slightly damp to prevent over-drying.
5. No Bleach
Bleach may seem like a quick fix for stains, but it can damage the delicate fibers of organic Turkish cotton, causing them to weaken and lose their softness over time. Plus, it can discolor the natural dyes used in our fabrics, leaving your towels looking faded.
For tough stains, pre-treat the area with a gentle, stain-removing solution.
6. Shake and Fluff
After washing, give your towels a good shake before putting them in the dryer. This helps to maintain their fluffiness. If you’re air-drying, shaking helps maintain softness.
7. Periodic Deep Cleaning
If your towels start to feel less absorbent or begin to smell, it may be due to detergent or fabric softener buildup. In this case, run the towels through a wash cycle with hot water and a cup of vinegar, followed by another cycle with half a cup of baking soda. This deep clean will help restore the towels’ softness and absorbency.
